It can be hard to stay motivated throughout the week, especially when you have numerous events or work to be done. Imagine coping with the stress of daily life, and then having your physio give you daily exercises to complete at home – where do you fit it in.
It’s important to set goals for yourself, both small and large, to reach throughout the day, most importantly when you have exercises from your physio to benefit your health in the long run. An example of a goal would be to complete half of the exercises in the morning immediately after you wake up, and the other half as soon as you get home from work.
Keeping yourself accountable is a problem area for some. It could be a good idea to set alarms or reminders, and maybe tell a friend or family member about your intentions. They may help keep you accountable. Achieving realistic goals each week allows you to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment, even if you week at work was hard.
Finally, and most importantly in my opinion, is to reward yourself. Savour the good feelings that reaching your goal gives you. Reward yourself with a meal at your favourite restaurant or buying something you’ve been wanting for a long time.
